The Arc
DSDC is an affiliated chapter of The Arc. The Arc is a membership organization, with local chapter members granted membership status in the state and national chapters (The Arc Tennessee, The Arc U.S.). The Arc is a grassroots disability advocacy organization originally formed by parents seeking improved quality of life for their children. Historically, since its inception in 1950, The Arc has advocated for Medicare and Medicaid, SSI, Free and Appropriate Public Education, Home and Community Based Services, Supported Employment and Fair Housing. For more historical details, click here. Today, The Arc participates in the Disability Policy Seminar in Washington, D.C. and Disability Day on the Hill in Nashville.
In addition to disability advocacy, the local DSDC Arc chapter hosts informational workshops for families and serves as a resource hub for the community. The Arc also coordinates a number of community-based activities- see the DSDC Events Calendar for details.
