The Arc Hosts Special Education Workshops

STEP, Inc. (Support and Training for Exceptional Parents) helps parents learn about their child’s educational needs and their rights provided under IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act). STEP is a federally funded program that provides information, training and support to parents of children with disabilities. STEP is holding Parent Training Workshops all over the state and parents who have attended them have been excited with all the information they learned and the assistance that they received. Learning about your rights is a powerful tool that can help you feel more confident in advocating for your child’s educational needs. Developmental Services of Dickson County, an Affiliated Chapter of The Arc, hosts regularly-scheduled FREE workshops in the Dickson County area.

Two core workshops are offered in the spring and fall of each year:  The Basic Rights Workshop – A Parent’s Introduction to Special Education, and The Individualized Education Program (IEP) Workshop.  All materials used at the workshops are also free to parents of children with disabilities. Each family will receive the STEP Parent Manual that includes important Federal and State laws regarding special education, as well as many helpful tools.

All parents of children in special education and parents of children that might need special education are invited to attend these FREE workshops.  For more information or to register for a workshop, contact Robyn Lampley at 615-446-3111 x 3008 or rlampley@dsdc.org.
